2012 - Taiwan Day 1 (20th June 2012)

All ready to type my taiwan trip! Planned for this trip 3 months back I think. Booked the tickets around March, scheduled trip on June 20. Settled my hotel and stuff. But hell, the itinerary was mad rushed! BF was so sotong, and I was too perfectionist. So instead of sharing the work with him, I planned everything myself. Then I was angry with him (more like PMS) throughout the whole trip. Small thing that I will get angry liao. Maybe because I was pissed that I had to do everything myself, from searching places to go, great food to eat, hotels, airplane tickets, bus journey, train journey, get taiwan vouchers etc etc. Maybe that's why he didn't flare up at me, 'cause I did all these. Haha.

That aside…. My plane was departing at 1am in the morning. And arrived at 6am at Taiwan? Early shit. LOL. Anyway, I was quite worried for the trip 'cause few days back there was earthquakes and typhoon! OMG. Almost thought I had to cancel the trip? Super sad. After calling up Jetstar last minute to check if the plane is still on, we left for the trip!

Can you guess which luggage is mine?

Reached the airport! … and saw this wrapper service. Didn't know the airport had such a service? And it's $10 per wrap I think. Expensive?

Yups. That's my luggage. And the baggage allowance that I bought was only 15kg. OMG. Luckily before I left the house, I bought another 15kg for the return trip (30kg). If not, sure need to pay overweight charges!!

Received our check in tickets!

Went to KFC so that BF can grab a bite since he didn't ate much for dinner.

Decided to check in early so I could go visit the duty-free shops…

The weather that night was horrible. Turbulence all the way. Plane shaking at nobody's business. Can't even sleep in peace, somemore you know how squeezy the seats in Jetstar were. And the plane was full! Noise + Squeeze + Turbulence = GG-ed.
I remember finally falling asleep at 3am, waking up at 4am, going back to sleep after opening my eyes. The sky was still dark then. At 5am, I opened my eyes and I saw the sky was bright! I totally missed the sunrise ):
Around 530am we finally saw small houses and farmlands~ Practically grabbing BF to see the pretty scenes.

Finally reached ximending! Our hotel was at ximending. So we left our baggage at the hotel (since the check in time has not reached yet. I scheduled us to reach at 10am, but instead we reached at 8am. OMG)

First stop: Longshan Temple at Longshan Station.
I'm quite a superstitious person, so we decided to go pray pray before we continue our journey. Pray for our safety for our short stay and also that there will not be any more earthquakes and typhoon quickly go away!!

Our first breakfast there! It wasn't that bad. And on the first day, I had bubbletea from 50岁 or was it 80岁. No idea. Just taiwan bubbletea. The pearls were nicer than singapore. Definitely.

After that we didn't know where to go.

So we took their metro train to...

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall!!

Their MRT system is similar to Singapore. Just tap and you're out!

Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall (Atrium, where they had all the riots or something).

Couple shot.
Didn't walked to the back area. Too tired. And it was drizzling. ):

Went back to ximending to have a rest at starbucks, since it's only 1pm. Time flies realllyyy slow over there. Had green tea latte and it's only NT133 for the Grande size! Convert to Singapore, I think it's less than $6. Cheappp!
Slacked till 2pm and walked over to hotel to check in.
Bathed and took a short nap before we left for shilin night market!

Of course had to try the 毫大大雞排. Really cheap too. I think it's NT60?
Forgot to take photo of the actual meat. Too hungry!!! But it was really big?
Definitely, At least bigger than Singapore's.

青蛙下蛋 eggs laid from the frog (NT25)
Similar to bubble tea. But it's aiyu + fenyuan. A little too sweet for my liking.

Tons of fruits shop around.

And of course, I found 阿宗面线. (NT40)
Yes yes yes! This is my love!!!!
1 word to describe. AWESOME!!! Totally different from Singapore's what shilin food shop?
The meesua was super soft, and melts in your mouth.
Instead of oyster (like singapore), they had pork large intestine. Initially I didn't know what it was. Didn't taste like large intestine though. (BF didn't really like it though.. I on the other hand, loved it. :)
The chilli sauce was, WOW. I didn't know it was so spicy and I added like 4 teaspoons? Swollen red lips afterwards. But AWESOME!
Actually, I ate this like 4 times during my 6-day stay over at Taiwan. Talk about crazy!! But that was how good it is.

I wanted to find the famous food stalls that I always saw on TV, but I didn't managed to find them! Why? Find out in Day 4/5 of the post coming up soon!
There were fashion shops at Shilin too. But didn't managed to get anything. Slightly too expensive, dresses were ~NT300-400… Trying to save money for 五分埔.
Walked around tirelessly searching for the food stalls and famous oyster pancake. Failed.
Left to go back hotel and rest.

Stayed at King National Hotel (金國際旅館 NT1600 per night)

Hotel was quite good, they even gave us the big room for 1 night. (:
