2012 - Taiwan Day 3 (22nd June 2012)

Here to share about my Taiwan trip again. If you're interested in what I've been doing the days earlier, here's for your referencing - Day 1 and Day 2

So on the 3rd day, we woke up to the awesome scenery at Jiufen and breakfast at our mingsu!

Love the sumptuous breakfast that the host prepared for us. This is the best hotel breakfast I've eaten so far! We were very satisfied with our stay there. (:

Walked around Jiufen Old Street again before we left.

Thereafter, we left for Yeliu (野柳). To get to Yeliu from Jiufen, take the Keelung Bus (Jinguashi - Jiufen) to the last stop which is Keelung Station, and catch the Keelung Bus Stop to Yeliu. The entrance fee for Yeliu Geopark is NT$50.

What's so interesting about Yeliu? According to the website, Yeliu means the Devil's Cape. In early days, local residents earned their living at sea and they relied on rice suppliers from inner land to offer rice to them. During transportation, some local people would use the sharp bamboo tube to stick the rick sack and leave a hole on it, so that the rice may slip out and could be picked up by them. As a result, rice traders often mentioned “the rice was stolen by the savages” (whereas “steal” and “savage” are pronounced similar to Yeh (savage) and liu (steal) in Taiwanese).

Yehliu Geopark is famous for its sea-erosion landscape, with famous examples like the Queen's Head and the Dragon’s Head Rock. The sea scenery is also fantastic, great for those aspiring photographers to take great landscape pictures!

Look at this awesome photograph that I took. It's almost as if I photoshopped 3/4 of the picture in? But I didn't. Hahaha

Some of the country-produced food that is famous over there is the 黑金剛花生, loosely translated as black-skin peanuts, which is supposed to have better health benefits than the normal red-skin peanuts. And it's damn cheap also, 300g for NT$100. Both our parents loved it. There is also a variety of preserved sweets that can be found in the market found right beside Yeliu.

Because it was getting late and we were tired, we decided to leave out visiting Tamshui (淡水) and head back to Ximending, by taking a bus, which took around ~1 hour (i think), afterwhich we dropped off at Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT and took the train back to Ximending. Because we were sooo tired, we spent the remaining night at Ximending area.

Guess who we saw in Ximending!  Yes, it's 浩角翔起! They were promoting their latest album and had this contest to reward their fans. Too bad I knew nuts about them other than that they were hosting holiday programmes. Haha.

Again, my favourite mee suan for dinner (:

Bought sausages for snacks.

And peanut icecream for dessert.
Verdict: Okay only. Similar to popiah, but instead of the radish vegetables, it's ice cream.

En route back, we saw this very interesting scene. Funny thing is, I saw this street performer in Singapore a few days back. He was performing so enthusiastically and didn't notice the police looking at him. Haha.

That's it for Day 3!
(:
