2013 - Taiwan Day 1 (28th May 2013)

I'm back to share with you on my first plane trip of the year! Basically I planned this trip as my graduation trip. And this time, I'm back to Taiwan again because I cannot get enough of this amazing country!

We flew via Jetstar because we bought our tickets when they were on sale (bring a friend for free) - So the ticket itself was about $575, with a total of 15kg (Singapore-Taipei) and 40kg (Taipei-Singapore) for 2 pax.

Our sleepy swollen faces at 5am in the morning.

Once again, to all friends/readers who are traveling to Taiwan for holiday, do remember to go to Taiwan Association at Chevron House to exchange for your freebies! Bring along your flight itinerary and hotel accommodation confirmation and you will be entitled to freebies, such as free Taipei ez-link card which is worth NT$100. Freebies change every few months (:

Mandatory in-flight images overseeing the country. We're about to landddd!!

Andddd. Guess who we met up with! Good old Mr Chew!!! Hehe.
Actually we already made plans to meet at the arrival place. Hehehe.
He came a week before me and we planned to go almost the same few places!
Meanwhile, I was so hungry that I koped some of our favorite taro cake (see Day 9).

Taipei DBS Bank
As we have not changed our money to Taiwan dollar, we rushed down to DBS Bank after leaving our luggage at our hotel. Many have reviewed that changing your currency at Taiwan is much higher than what Singapore offers. I totally agree with this statement. Even the best exchanger (Indian's at The Atrium) in Singapore offers lower than Taiwan DBS. Well, currency rates fluctuate, so be sure to monitor the rates in both Singapore via hardwarezone and Taipei via DBS Bank once you have confirmed your flight itinerary, or at least 2 months before if you want to get the best rates. (:

I went to the DBS Branch at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Take the blue line to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and exit via Exit 5. You will automatically see DBS bank in front of you across the road. Do take note it's better to provide cash for them. Some sources mentioned that there is an extra admin fee for exchanging money over there. Well it didn't happen for me, but maybe because I exchanged nearly SGD$1000 over there.

After that, we went back to the hotel to take a rest before leaving for our next sight-seeing destination (Tamshui). Of course, the first thing first is to enjoy my favorite bowl of Ah Zong Mian Xian!

Dansui (淡水)Adventures
When you go Dansui, you must go to Fisherman's Wharf to see the sunset. So, we reached around 530pm and rushed to Tamsui Ferry Pier to get the boat tickets (~<NT$240 for return trip). I shall let the pictures do the talking (: We sooo love the sunset. (:

Finally, there's food on the table! Take a walk down Dansui Old Street (淡水老街) and you will see lots of food!!!! Dansui is famous of their A-Gei (which I wasn't able to find in other regions in Taiwan other than Dansui) and their Iron Eggs. This is the only ones we tried because we were full just from these 3 bowls. And we were sharing the food. (Left: Stir-Fried Noodles with Minced Pork; Top Right: Fish Balls, Bottom Right: A-Gei (Crystal Noodles stuffed in fried bean curd served with mild hot sauce).

Ximending
Then we got tired and we left Dansui for our hotel at ximending for some shopping.

Saw lots of people buying this super tall ice cream which was relatively cheap (short ~NT25, tall ~NT50), and so we decided to try. Let's just say we weren't as satisfied as how we were smiling. The ice cream has quite a diluted taste and the cone is like lao-hong (soft). Nonetheless, good try.

I immediately bought Aloe Vera Masks (Brand: Sexylook) from Cosmed to be used for our journey. So much sun, we definitely need some healing and hydrating masks!

I miss Taiwan already. ):
