Istanbul, Turkey April 2014

Someday in April, I was rostered for an Istanbul flight. I was lucky to meet another crew who was going to Istanbul for the first time too! So we kaki-ed up with 2 other crew from another set and off we go for some sightseeing.

The first stop definitely has to be the famous Blue Mosque known as Sultan Ahmed Mosque. It was known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorned the walls of its interior. To enter the mosque, avoid wearing revealing clothes such as tank tops, spaghetti straps, shorts and to be safer, I would suggest bringing your own head gear, perhaps a scarf or something. They do provide headgear and some clothes which you have to wear to cover yourself if you are not in the appropriate attire.

Then we moved on to the Grand Bazaar for some shopping! It's located somewhat near to the mosque area, probably another 15-30 mins walk away. The Grand Bazaar is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. They mainly sell textiles, carpets, lamps, shisha and tourist gifts (e.g. keychains, evil eye amulet). We didn't manage to walk the whole place though. We bought our lamps and shisha, walked a bit more and left.

Love the designs of their lamps!!!! Gotta start a collection for my future house if I have one.

Thank you for the great company! (:
